As we work toward shaping a sustainable energy future in Alberta, we are deeply committed to forging long-lasting, mutually beneficial partnerships with Indigenous Nations and Communities. At Energy Alberta, we understand that meaningful relationships are built on trust, respect and a shared commitment to progress.
We firmly believe that the path forward requires collaboration and communication and the need to prioritize environmental stewardship and the shared pursuit of economic growth.
At the heart of our work with Indigenous Nations and communities is an unwavering respect for the rights and traditions of Indigenous Peoples. Energy Alberta recognizes that these rights are constitutionally protected and we acknowledge the deep significance of traditional knowledge, cultural values and practices that have been passed down through generations.
Our engagement with Indigenous Nations and Communities will be transparent and rooted in the recognition that these rights are central to every aspect of our project. By respecting the knowledge and customs of Indigenous Peoples, we ensure that their perspectives are always a part of the conversation as we move forward with energy solutions that benefit us all.
Energy Alberta is dedicated to advancing reconciliation, with a clear focus on aligning our actions with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). We will actively incorporate the principles of reconciliation into our practices, acknowledging the importance of addressing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
Our commitment to UNDRIP is not just about fulfilling a set of guidelines—it’s about integrating the spirit of these principles into the way we work. We believe that true reconciliation involves taking concrete steps to recognize past wrongs, engage in meaningful consultation and foster long-term relationships that create lasting value for Indigenous Nations and Communities.
We know that building trust requires more than just words—it takes action.
Our approach is founded on the idea that engagement should be ongoing, transparent and meaningful. By actively seeking input from Indigenous Nations and Communities, we ensure that their perspectives shape our decision-making processes. This ongoing dialogue allows us to build strong, mutually beneficial relationships that reflect the unique values and cultural heritage of each community.
We are committed to integrating Indigenous knowledge into our environmental stewardship strategies, acknowledging that Indigenous Nations and Communities have long been stewards of the land.
We will actively seek out traditional ecological knowledge, ensuring that our operations are aligned with Indigenous values of conservation and respect for nature. By working together, we aim to create a more sustainable future—one where energy production is balanced with the protection of the environment.
One of our core commitments at Energy Alberta is to create economic opportunities that benefit Indigenous Nations and Communities. We are dedicated to providing fair access to employment, training and business partnerships that empower Indigenous Peoples and contribute to economic self-sufficiency.
By working alongside Indigenous-owned businesses and investing in community-led initiatives that support sustainable development and growth, we can create shared prosperity and more resilient communities.
Together, we can build a stronger, more sustainable future for Alberta—one that honours the traditions of the past while looking ahead to a brighter, more prosperous tomorrow.
