Big conversations are happening across the Peace Region and your voices are shaping the future of clean energy in Alberta.
This September, Energy Alberta hosted four engagement sessions in Peace River, Weberville, Grimshaw and Manning, bringing together more than 240 participants to discuss the proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project.
Throughout the week, we presented on several key topics:
After each presentation, we held open discussions and Q&A sessions for each topic so participants could ask questions directly and share their thoughts. We also invited community members to write down their comments, concerns and ideas on discussion boards – giving everyone the chance to contribute in the way that felt most comfortable.
In addition to the in-person sessions, Energy Alberta launched an online engagement opportunity to make the same presentations and opportunities for feedback available to those who could not attend in person. This provided another way for the community to learn about the Project and share their perspectives.
We heard a wide range of perspectives: from questions about environmental stewardship and safety, to discussions about local job opportunities, training and how the Project might affect community life, infrastructure and services. The feedback gathered is now being carefully reviewed by our team, helping us better understand local priorities and ensure that community voices are being reflected in our planning.
Energy Alberta is committed to ensuring community voices are heard and respected throughout the planning process. We are grateful to all who attended, watched our videos, asked questions and shared feedback – both during group discussions and one-on-one conversations.
The insights we received are helping inform the Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines that will shape the next phase of the federal review. Your feedback from these sessions will be shared with the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) as it develops the Project’s guidelines, helping ensure they reflect the issues and topics that matter most to the people of the Peace Region.
For those who were unable to attend, the full presentations on each topic are available to watch on our YouTube Channel.
Thank you again to the communities of Peace River, Weberville, Grimshaw and Manning for your time, thoughtful engagement and hospitality.
